Luca Méndez

LUCA MÉNDEZ

— Available for commissions · Q3 2026 —

Light,
held still.

Editorial and documentary photographer based in Lisbon. Long-form stories on coast, ritual, and the people who remain. Available for editorial commissions, portrait sittings, and documentary projects from August 2026.

Based in Lisbon since 2019. Spanish-born, half-Brazilian, half-Portuguese. Works in 35mm, 6×7, and digital medium-format.

— About —

Six years on one peninsula. Four cameras. One way of looking.

Luca Méndez has photographed for The New York Times Magazine, Monocle, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, and the Portuguese maritime archive. Two solo exhibitions (Lisbon, 2022 · Porto, 2024). Represented by Agency Saudade since 2021.

Work is slow on purpose. A typical editorial commission is shot across three to seven days. Documentary projects run from two weeks to a season. The result is fewer frames, more time with each subject, and prints that hold up at scale.

"I would rather make one picture that stays than fifty that scroll." — Luca, in conversation with Aperture, 2024.
